Early this morning, Joe Biden issued new rules to protect immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens from being deported. The new rules will make it easier for migrants to apply for permanent resident status.
The White House says it expects the new rules to protect around half a million families, including about 50,000 people under the age of 21 who are either married to or children of United States citizens.
According to the new policies, you can qualify for permanent residency if you have lived in the U.S. for 10 years or more and are legally married to a U.S. citizen, while also satisfying other immigration requirements.
According to a White House spokesperson, the rules would only apply to "individuals who are eligible under existing U.S. law to be able to adjust their status."
