It's looking like another extra hot summer is almost here, and energy prices are rising, meaning you'll likely have to shell out quite a bit of money to keep your home cool this year. Despite HVAC systems getting more efficient over the past 20 years, the prices just won't go down.
Keeping your home cool over the summer used to cost around $476.00 ten years ago; this year, it will be around $719.00. So what has driven the cost up? KTRH's Jim Dutton, the host of Texas Home Improvement, says, "Everything keeps changing, that's raising the cost of everything. You've got to keep retooling the manufacturers, oil prices are going up, that raises the cost."
Dutton says there are things you can do to keep your prices down. He says to make sure you keep your system clean, including coils and filters. He also recommends getting your system checked and cleaned twice a year to ensure it runs with maximum efficiency.
