It’s been a deadly weekend for those going to the beach in Galveston.

Officials say a 19 year old woman drowned on Sunday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing Yamileth Ramirez, a 19-year-old woman living in Houston, body surfing with her brother when she began to struggle. Her brother and a bystander pulled her to shore and began CPR. Emergency responders arrived, provided advanced life support, and transported her to John Sealy Emergency Room, where she was pronounced dead.

Ramirez was the second person to die in the water this weekend.

Another person was killed, and dozens were rescued, in dangerous rip currents.

A televised report says lifeguards performed CPR on one of the rescues who later died at the hospital.

Officials confirmed the man was visiting from Louisiana.

A red flag warning is posted at the beaches, signifying the presence of strong wind and strong current or large surf.

Unlike pools in the City of Houston, Galveston lifeguard stations are fully staffed.
