Fatal Tornadoes Leave Trail of Death and Destruction

Tornadoes left a trail of destruction Saturday night in communities across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. They were spawned by a severe storm system in the Southern Plains that left at least two dead in Texas, uprooted trees and knocked down power lines. Several homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed and rescue workers were looking for people trapped or injured. The storms are moving east today, with nearly 20 million people at risk. A million people in parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee are under a tornado watch this morning. More than 360 thousand customers were without power.

Images are coming out of the severe damage in Northeast Texas. Tornado sirens blared north of Dallas late Saturday - early Sunday as possible twisters were reported from Denton to Celina. Officials in Denton County report damaged homes, downed power lines and flipped over 18-wheelers in the area, and damaged mobile homes near the town of Sanger. The number of injuries is not yet clear. Deputies in Denton County are checking homes and trailer parks for anyone in need of assistance. Images of the damage show scattered debris and twisted metal from destroyed buildings.
