FEMA Arrives to Assist After Storm

Led by Mayor John Whitmire and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, city leaders held a news conference to announce that FEMA has arrived and is ready to help Houstonian's that are in need.

"All hands are on deck, we're working together" Whitmire said, "I want Houstonian's to know that city government, all levels of government are looking out for them. We've got days of recovery, the lights should be on by late Wednesday."

It was all hands on deck, with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, on hand as well.

"We have over 400 people on the ground right now" Criswell said, "We'll continue to bring in additional resources as we work with the city and the county, as well as the state, to understand what the needs are. And we are continuing to expedite the assessment so we can add on additional support as needed."

If you are in need of help, FEMA says the first thing to do is to register. Go to: disaster assistance.gov, or you can call (800) 621-3362.

And even though most of Houston's city leaders are Democrats, Republican Congressman Wesley Hunt made it home from Washington.

"This is not about partisanship, this is not about what political party you're affiliated with" Hunt said, "This is about operating in the best interests of my fellow Houstonian's."

Before the briefing ended, Mayor Whitmire had everyone pause for prayer for those who lost their lives during last weeks storms.
