Thanks to massive handouts of taxpayer dollars, the border crisis has become big business for non-profits that can secure lucrative government contracts to "care" for illegal aliens. As much as seven billion dollars is up for grabs in almost completely unsupervised programs.
Investigative journalist Maddie Rowley told KTRH, "They basically have a blank check here to do with it what they will. The level of taxpayer money involved in this is really unthinkable."
She says this has allowed these organizations to expand rapidly, and executives are taking extremely lucrative salaries at taxpayer expense. Rowley says Congress needs to do a better job of providing oversight into how these organizations spend taxpayer money.
She says one organization spent thousands of dollars on things like pet therapy and horticulture therapy for illegal aliens. Rowley also pointed out that many of the shelters run by these organizations haven't done the simple background checks that are required for their new staff, which has led to instances of sexual assault and even children going missing.
