After voting against Republican bills that would have given more funding to Texas schools, Democrats are demanding Greg Abbott calls a special session of Congress to give more money to public schools.
So why do Democrats always seem to think schools need more money? School choice advocate Corey DeAngelis says they don't. He said, "This is all about control, it's not really about money. They just want to act like the sky is falling and act like there are fires to put out because they don't like Abbott and they don't like Republicans."
DeAngelis says the problem isn't that Texas schools don't have enough money; it's that they have no incentive to spend that money wisely. DeAngelis also said it's insane that they would want to demand even more money now, after voting down a bill that would have added $6 billion in public school funding.
Governor Gregg Abbott blasted the demand for another special session in a public letter to Representative Jon Rosenthal, saying, "Know this, my commitment to improving public schools is just as resolute as yours. To achieve our shared goal, however, it is incumbent upon you to work with your fellow House members to muster the votes in the Texas House to get it passed—something you were unwilling to do last year."
