As expected, a line of strong thunderstorms moved across the Houston area this early morning.
There was wind damage in the area, specifically in Katy, where an F-1 tornado touched down briefly, causing damage to several businesses. Assistant Fire Chief Mark Donovan said several buildings were significantly damaged.
Donovan said there were workers at a bar in the shopping center who were finishing up their shifts when they saw "torrential rain, high winds and heard what they described as a loud noise." According to Donovan, there was also a gas leak, and utility companies were called in to secure the gas and electricity.
Officials said the workers in the bar took shelter in the back and were unharmed.
We also have heard of wind damage in Spring and Dicksonson.
The storms have knocked out power for more than 145,000 CenterPoint customers. You can click HERE to track the outages.
