Mandate Madness: Left's Overreach Backfires

The Left loves to mind your business. Whether COVID shots, electric vehicles, or energy efficient homes, liberals seem to have what some critics call a love affair with one-size-fits-all government mandates. The most egregious example of this was the COVID mandates of recent years, many of which proved difficult to end, even in Texas. But the mandate-mania is also prominent in the green energy movement, including ever-tightening fuel efficiency standards and even an outright ban on the sale of gasoline-powered cars in California planned for the next decade.

However, these 'rules for thee' have started to run into a problem: the people. With COVID vaccine mandates mostly proven unworkable and ineffective, and with the vast majority of the public no longer interested in the booster shots, most of those mandates have quietly been rolled back. Similarly, with demand for EVs tanking and automakers shifting more of their production away from fully electric cars, the government may have to ease up on that bold EV agenda.

Jared Woodfill, attorney and conservative activist, says these mandates are billed as being 'for the public good,' but are really about control. "Because they're not able to get these items through Congress or their respective state legislatures, they use the mandate process---whether through executive order or an administrative agency---to force this agenda upon the people," he tells KTRH. "Because they don't trust the people and they know we are opposed to their leftist agenda, they try to accomplish their goals through these mandates, which are clearly a trample on our Constitutional rights."

Seeing many of these mandates fizzle out on their own may be satisfying to conservatives, but Woodfill warns that is not good enough. "We have to fight back," he says. "We need to stand up, we need to speak up, we need to remove those individuals who are behind the mandates, and make sure that it never happens again," he says.

"Too many people cower in fear over these mandates instead of standing up," he continues. "That's why we need to make sure our faith is stronger than our fear."
