The cartels operating along the southern border are continuing to become more advanced and are now employing the use of drones in their operations. Pentagon officials are now saying that CBP agents are encountering over 1,000 cartel-operated drones a month.

The National Border Patrol Council's Chris Cabrera told KTRH that the cartels usually use these drones to transport drugs and other contraband into Mexican prisons but are now using them for surveillance purposes, spotting law enforcement at the border and then moving people and drugs based on that intelligence.

Cabrera says this demonstrates how advanced and well-funded the cartels have become. He said, "These guys are very technologically sophisticated. They have huge amounts of money, and they don't have to deal with budget constraints like we do."

Cabrera says that when it comes to dealing with these drones, there's a lot of red tape, and nothing's as easy as it should be. He says this is another example of how behind the ball America is when it comes to border security.
