A power pole owned by Southwest Public Service Company ("SPS") has been identified as the possible source of ignition for the largest wild fire in Texas history - the Smokehouse Creek Fire in the Texas Panhandle. It is believed to have started near the town of Canadian, Texas in Hemphill County and has burned over 1 million acres.
At least one lawsuit has been filed against SPS and its parent company, Xcel Energy.
