Plowed: Inflation, Green Policies Hurt Texas Farms

It has been a rough go for Texas farmers over the past few years, and it is only getting worse. Already facing natural challenges like drought and the recent devastating wildfires, ranchers are now bearing the brunt of Biden administration policies, from the border crisis, to inflation, to "green" energy initiatives. The result is the nation's smallest cattle population in 50 years, and a one-million pound decrease in U.S. beef production in just the past year.

Before the wildfires that have killed thousands of cattle and destroyed millions of acres of grassland in the Texas panhandle, Texas rancher Shad Sullivan was already warning about the threat to the cattle industry from the government. "This is a direct result of the global elites claiming that climate change is ruining the world, and that we must implement sustainability---which is just production and consumption control," he told Fox News.

"They claim that cattle are ruining the planet," Sullivan continued. "We have to stop that, and make sure that people understand 'sustainability' is nothing more than communism."

Sullivan warned that the decline in U.S. cattle population and beef production is not by accident, and it will ultimately mean higher prices and less selection for consumers. "This is a symptom of what is going on, and we have to get on top of that...otherwise, we will see Americans eating bugs in the next 20 years," he said.

"The beef cattle industry is the last bastion of freedom (in America)," he continued. "And so we have to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, and stop these global elites."
