After being put on hold for months, the trial for the last remaining Harris County election case from 2022 is set to start today. The case involves incumbent Democrat judge DaSean Jones, and the plaintiff Tami Pierce.
"They're both running for a judicial seat" said Holly Hansen, reporter with The Texan, "But after all of the snafu's we saw in the 2022 general election, the two were just separated by just 449 votes. It is probably the case that has the best chance of actually finding some success in the court."
There were 21 other candidates who filed election lawsuits, but most of the cases were thrown out, mainly because the judge felt the issues would not have made a difference in the final outcome. This case though could be different because it was so close.
But as for election day in 2022, there were major issues.
"And I think that's one of the big pieces that was missing from a lot of the media coverage" Hansen told KTRH, "The judge did find that the election's administrator purposely violated state election code, illegally counted votes for ineligible voters, and Harris County did not supply enough ballots to the polling sites on election day. They made quite a number of mistakes."
That's why many experts believe this case could result in a new election. We don't know when a possible new election would take place, but it has happened before here in Texas.
In the meantime, that incumbent Democrat judge DaSean Jones, is currently running for the Texas Supreme Court.
