As more and more people become concerned about the security of their data, the government is finding it hard to find participants for surveys. A big reason for that is many Americans no longer trust any institutions, including the government.
Internet and privacy attorney Travis Crabtree told KTRH, "The idea that the government is collecting more data for the alleged purpose of security, and cutting back on fraud, is just another reason to ask if they really need this information, and what are they doing with it?"
Crabtree says the government has a long way to go to regain America's trust when it comes to the collection and use of data, and they need to start by being very upfront. He says, "There needs to be transparency with regards to where it goes, who gets to see it, and what security measures are they using to keep it from being breached and hacked."
