Super Tuesday is expected to have a major impact on the Texas House, with 57 percent of House members facing a primary challenger. This is due in large part to endorsements from Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton. Both are involved in the 2024 races for their own reasons.
Paxton is out for revenge for his frivolous impeachment last year, and Abbott wants representatives who are more friendly to his school choice agenda.
Political consultant Bill Miller told KTRH that neither Paxton nor Abbott need a clean sweep to achieve their goals. He says, "I don't expect a bloodbath one way or another, but there will be blood. I think that it will be a question of who loses, not how many."
He also said that some of these tight, high-profile races like Dade Phelan's could go to a runoff election. Miller thinks that runoffs lend themselves to the more conservative candidate since their voter base is more motivated.
