Abbott Visits North Texas Friday

The wildfires continue raging in North Texas. A red flag warning is issued by the National Weather Service from 11 Saturday morning through 7 Sunday evening for all of the south plains and the far southern Texas panhandle.

Governor Greg Abbott visited the Panhandle Friday to get a first-hand look at the damage left by the wildfires that have been raging in that area all week. Abbott, along with state and local officials held a press conference in the town of Borger. He pointed out that the Smokehouse Creek fire is now the largest fire in the state's history, burning well over a million acres. He also thanked neighboring states for their help, not only with personnel and firefighting equipment, but for shipments of hay for cattle and other livestock.

Abbott is warning that conditions this weekend will once again be favorable for the rapid spread of any fires.

During his visit to the border on Thursday, former President Donald Trump said he would "absolutely" consider Governor Greg Abbott for his running mate. Trump says Abbott's response to the border crisis puts him on the short list of potential candidates.
