The U.S. Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Trump Immunity Case

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the immunity case for former president Donald Trump.

This will be case #3 for Trump taken up by SCOTUS. The oral arguments will take place the week of April 22nd, with a ruling expected by late June.

Until then, Trump's Jan.6 case is on hold.

According to the court’s brief order, the court will decide this question: “Whether and if so to what extent does a former president enjoy presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts during his tenure in office.”

Trump's request said, "If the prosecution of a President is upheld, such prosecutions will recur and become increasingly common, ushering in destructive cycles of recrimination," the Trump request stated. "Criminal prosecution, with its greater stigma and more severe penalties, imposes a far greater ‘personal vulnerability’ on the President than any civil penalty."

The request added, "The threat of future criminal prosecution by a politically opposed Administration will overshadow every future President’s official acts — especially the most politically controversial decisions."

Trump's lawyers added, "Without immunity from criminal prosecution, the Presidency as we know it will cease to exist."

Meanwhile, it's been a tough week for Special Counsel Jack Smith who has been roasted for saying that Trump's documents case is not similar to Joe Biden's.
