Is a college degree the key to success? Maybe not so much anymore...

Several recent studies suggest that only half of college graduates are employed in jobs that require their degrees. The old adage that a college degree was the ticket to success is being tested - and failing, in many cases.

Mike Thompson, CEO of Learner Mobile says that there are multiple pathways to a successful career - not just through a four year college degree program. And that the competition for workers is fierce. It is possible that some young people that are better off going straight to work, or going to trade school.

Some employers are deleting the requirements for college degrees for some entry level jobs. They are adding training and other programs to get the "newest" workers up to speed and in possession of the skills they need to succeed at their new jobs.

The challenge for colleges will be to try to be relevant and evolve their curriculum and instruction. It may be difficult for some students to justify the cost and time it takes to get a degree.
