Price Check: Grocery Bills Soar, Biden Blames Stores

The Biden administration has bragged about inflation cooling from its historic highs of 2022, but one major sector remains stubbornly high. Food prices continue to soar, with a recent Moody's Analytics report saying the average U.S. household is now paying over $200 more per month for basic goods than just a year ago. The Wall Street Journal reports Americans are spending more of their budget on food that at any time in the last 30 years.

Forced to acknowledge this reality that is hitting Americans directly in their pocketbooks, President Biden is going back to one of his standard defenses. Just like when he blamed high gas prices on greedy station owners, he's now blaming stores for high food prices. "For all we've done to bring prices down, there are still too many corporations in America ripping people off," Biden said at a recent campaign event. "Price gouging, junk fees, greedflation, shrinkflation."

"We're tired of being played for suckers," Biden continued. "And that's why we're going to keep on these guys and get the prices down."

But Biden's critics say the only people being played for suckers are those who believe that greedy store owners are the reason for rising prices over the past three years. "Either all of a sudden the supermarkets and food producers all got greedy at once, or a senile blowhard who never worked in the private sector is wrong," said Fox News Host Greg Gutfeld in a recent monologue.

"Stores that aren't already closing due to crime are merely responding to the inflation that jumped under (Biden's) administration, which saps the value of our paycheck---it's worth less and products are worth more," Gutfeld continued. "Maybe those items would be cheaper if stores didn't need to keep them under lock and key, fuel costs weren't sky-high, and the Fed wasn't printing money to give to other countries, illegal immigrants, and student loan deadbeats---otherwise known as Joe's core constituencies."
