Gov. Greg Abbott Announces A New Texas Base Camp To Be Built At Eagle Pass

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced at a news conference that a new military department base camp is going to be built at Eagle Pass.

"This will increase the ability for a larger number of Texas military department personnel in Eagle Pass, to operate more effectively and more efficiently" Abbott said.

The new facility will hold up to 1,800 of the Texas National Guard, who as Abbott said have been living in conditions that are "atypical" for a military operation.

"But now, because of the magnitude of what we are doing" Abbott said, "It's essential that we build this base camp for these soldiers. It's going to be good for them, improve living conditions, and improve and sustain a very strong morale for our soldiers."

The first phase with 300 beds is set to be completed in April, with an additional 300 beds added every 30 days.

"Yes, it's going to cost some money" noted Abbott, "But this will improve the quality and conditions, and lower the cost of those conditions. So this is going to be a win-win for the National Guard, and the state of Texas."
