Mexico has a financial incentive to allow illegal immigrants to cross the border. Remittance payments from Mexican nationals working in the United States now contribute more to the Mexican GDP than tourism does.
Breitbart's Ildefonso Ortiz told KTRH, "This is a considerable amount. It's in the millions of dollars."
Ortiz also believes that there may be more money going back to Mexico than we think because of how difficult it is to trace any money that isn't sent via wire.
Even if the American job market slows down, Ortiz doesn't expect the remittance payments to slow down because workers can still make far more money in the U.S. than they can in Mexico. He also said that remittance payments might also be used to launder money that is then used to bribe officials.
