In a recent survey of American smart phone users - the average respondent said they spend over four and a half hours per day looking at their smartphone. But the usage varies widely by generation.
Baby Boomers only used their phones, on average, about three and a half hours per day. But Gen Zers in the survey said they spent just over six hours per day, on average, looking at their smartphones.
Forty percent of respondents said that they were trying to reduce the amount of time they spend looking at their phones. And 59% of the respondents said they use their smartphones while in the bathroom.
Allison Hadley, spokeperson for Harmony Healthcare IT says there are a number of reasons why this "connection" with our smartphones has occurred - among them...entertainment, distraction and boredom.
Several tactics to reduce compulsive smartphone use have been identified - including: powering them off, hiding them when around other people and using the phone's settings to block interruptions.
