Talk about Great Expectations! I got my degree and I need to get a job - I would like to be the CEO...
A recent survey of 70,000 small business owners found they overwhelmingly felt that new college graduates are unprepared for the workforce. Among the reasons? Completely unrealistic expectations about pay, promotions and how much they will be expected to work. And actually showing up to an office? They would prefer to work remote.
The college programs turning out these graduates have focused on other aspects of their education. Instead of preparing their students for the workforce, these colleges and universities have focused on pronouns and DEI initiatives. Many of these youngest potential employees are the most "inexperienced" generation ever - forgoing summer employment, part-time work and internships as they continued their studies.
Mike Thompson, CEO of Learner Mobile thinks employers may need to receive more training in order to contribute to their new employment situations. He also thinks some re-setting of expectations would be a helpful place to focus as well.
