More young people are refusing to affiliate with either political party, and those voters could swing the election in 2024. With both Joe Biden and Donald Trump having loyal support from their base, the independents will be the ones who make the difference this cycle.

Political analyst Anthony Russo says independent voters could change the tide of 2024 by simply not showing up.

"The people who are going to stay at home are going to be the ones who are a little bit iffy, whereas the Trump supporters are gonna show up in force to support their guy."

Russo says Biden voters are driven by a hate for Donald Trump, rather than a support for Biden's policies or even the man himself. That means Biden needs those independent voters who are annoyed by Trump. In short, Biden doesn't have as much momentum to lose.
