Texas Property Taxes are due today - January 31, 2024.
And the rate of increases in property taxes in Texas have outstripped inflation over the past few years. Even with some relief from the latest session of the Texas Legislature, taxes are still increasing.
John Bonura, Policy Analyst with the Texas Public Policy Foundation says that school and city taxes make up the majority of our taxes - and transparency and accountability into how the spending by these entities is justified. As Texans are tightening their belts, the cities and schools should be doing the same.
