A New York jury on Friday deciding that former President Donald Trump must pay writer E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in his defamation lawsuit.
The suit was brought forward by Carroll, who accused Trump of sexually abusing her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s. Carroll originally asked for just $10 million. The jury had already found him liable for defamation last year.
To break it down, Trump owes her $18.3 million in compensatory damages, and $65 million in punitive damages. His attorney Alina Habba says they will be appealing. She also sounded off outside the courtroom, saying the fix was in from the start.
"The judge decided every single defense that Donald Trump had was not allowed to be raised in front of a jury," she said. "There was no DNA...my experts, two of them, were denied to come into the courtroom. We are seeing a violation of our justice system."
Trump said on Truth Social the ruling was 'absolutely ridiculous,' and that the justice system is being used as a weapon.
