Despite The U.S. Supreme Court striking down Biden's college loan forgiveness program, many borrowers have decided the ruling doesn't apply to them. As many as 25% of borrowers are avoiding making payments, as a way of protesting the end of the COVID era payment pauses. Based Politics Co-Founder Brad Polumbo told KTRH, "This is a childish protest." He noted that they have already had nearly three years of time off from their loan payments.
But despite the Biden administrations effort to let this slide, Polumbo says this delinquent payments will have consequences. "Their credit score is going to tank, and they're not gonna be able to get a home one day. If they try this with a mortgage or a car payment, they'll get a much less receptive audience."
