More people are expected to reach their 100th birthday. A recent Pew Research report states that the number of people that become centenarians in the United States is expected to quadruple between now and 2054.
Currently there are some 100,000 centenarians in the U.S. The Pew Research Report - see link below - draws on United Nations Population Projections and estimates in 30 years that number will be over 420 thousand.
Dr. Joe Galati, KTRH Medical Director, says there are 4 things that people can do now to improve the likelihood that they will live to be to be 100. These are: maintain a healthy weight, don't drink, don't smoke, and maintain body strength and cardiovascular health through exercise.
Dr. Jacob Rosentstein, Founder of the Southwest Age Intervention Institute added one additional thing that people seeking to join the Centenarian club can do - have a PURPOSE. Dr. Rosenstein says that if your soul has a true purpose, you will live a long life - because your body won't want to quit.
Words to live by, from those who know.
