Texas House effectively kills School Voucher bill by voting to remove them

The Texas House is now on their fourth special session, which has been called by Governor Greg Abbott with one single purpose in mind. That is to pass House Bill 1, which enacts school choice in Texas, creating an education savings account for parents to choose private schools for their kids.

After passing border security earlier in the week, the House decied to begin their debate of school choice on Friday morning. Hours of debate ensued, before the House voted 84 to 63 to strip vouchers from that massive educaiton bill. That all but leaves the bill dead, at least for the moment.

The House then voted to send the bill back to committee, and adjourned for the weekend.

Elsewhere during the chaos today, the House did unanimously vote to pass House Bill 2, which enhances school safety for districts.

They will return again to the chambers Tuesday, November 21st.
