A new poll finds that the majority of Americans still support the First Amendment. It's a big number, with 9 out of 10 saying we need free speech, but only to a point.
"But then when they were asked about specific examples, like the Nazi party, the KKK or the communist party, the support for free speech cratered" said writer Brad Polumbo, "And then you had huge swaths of the public saying "free speech", but not for those icky people."
And then, as Joseph Vazquez notes for the Media Research Center, it then becomes an issue of who are the 'icky people', and who decides it?
"When you see that 58% say that freedom of speech should not extend to Nazi's, guess what? It's not just Nazi's" Vazquez told KTRH, "It's conservatives at large, because they lump them in. It's absolutely terrifying where this country is headed."
The bottom line, it all goes back to the left trying to silence their opposition, which cannot continue if we are going to be a free republic.
