Debt Ceiling Bill passed by U.S. House, now heads to Senate

The U.S. House tonight formally passed through the debt ceiling bill, recently agreed upon by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden.

It only needed a simple majority of 217 votes and ended up passing 314 to 117. Speaker McCarthy spoke briefly with media after the dust settled.

"Because of the vote we took tonight...it was the largest rescissions in American history. All of that COVID money, all those billions of dollars they said they would never bring back...you know what? To you, the taxpayer, to all you hard working Americans, we stood for you. We brought that money back," he said.

The Senate is expected to begin its attempts at passing the bill on Friday and may drag it into the weekend. The bill would suspend the debt ceiling through 2025.
