Harris County, Others Spending Millions On Taxpayer-Funded Lobbyists

Harris County GOP is outing Democrats on Commissioners Court for using your tax money against you, by hiring a legal team to advise them on how to stop critical legislation from passing in Austin.

"Local governments have weaponized tax dollars against the public interest. They're spending millions upon millions of dollars every year to advance a progressive agenda at the conservative state legislature," says Jame Quintero, director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation's Government for the People initiative.

Quintero says local governments, school boards and other entities spend upwards of $75 million on lobbying during the 2021 session.

"It's getting more obvious that what they're doing is leading to the 'Californization' of Texas."

Another effort to outlaw local governments from hiring lobbyists passed the Texas Senate this session, but stalled again in the House.
