When we talk about social media, it's usually in the context of big tech censorship, or meddling from China via Tik Tok. But if you turn the tables, what about the influence that social media is having on us individually?
"This is really bad for us" said Georgi Boorman, a senior contributor with the Federalist, "It's not just about political polarization, that's a part of it, but I think the bigger part is how social media is turning us into worse people, because all of those likes and all of those comments, are influencing how we think about ourselves."
It's something that Boorman noticed, and learned first hand. As her career, as well as her likes, began to rise, she discovered that social media popularity was changing people's personas, and not for the better.
"I watched people that I respect, become sort of different people" Boorman told KTRH, "Less empathetic, and less willing to engage with the other side, because they spend so much time on social media. Who can say that we're all better people for having used this?"
It's a great question, and sadly a growing dilemma. She finds that some people need to just get off social media completely. And for those that do stay on, she suggests not only monitoring the time you spend, and what you take in. But also, what you are putting out on social media, and why.
