Texas Lottery Breaks All-Time Sales Record 12th Year in a Row

2022 is another record-breaking year for the Texas Lottery.

The new all-time sales record according to the Texas Lottery Commission is $8.3 billion. 2022 is also the 12th record-breaking year in a row. Despite an up and down economy over the years, the commission’s Executive Director, Gary Grief, says Texans have consistently bought lottery scratch ticket and draw game products.

“When you think about lottery tickets, we’re somewhat recession proof,” Grief said. “Our prices never go up. The price of a scratch off has been the same price, whatever denomination you want to play, for the past thirty years.”

He pointed out another record number this year. Almost $2 billion went to education and veterans’ assistance.
