Senate Report: Better Communication Needed to Counter Enemy Spies

The Senate is calling on U.S. spy agencies to step up their efforts to counter China and Russia.

Attempts by America’s adversaries to steal sensitive data and meddle in foreign elections are on the rise. That's according to the new Senate Intelligence Committee report, which warns that U.S. spy agencies are hampered by miscommunication and a lack of funding. Specifically, the study claims the National Counterintelligence and Security Center doesn't have a “clear mission”. National security expert Edward Turzanski says that's a problem because Russia and China aren’t about to give up.

“They are hard at work acquiring our secrets. We do have a problem in terms of the mechanics. The more important problem is one of mindset,” Turzanski explained. “I don’t think we are as persistent and as clear in our thinking as we need to be to understanding that the threats are unrelenting and are multifaceted.”

That’s why Turzanski says U.S. government agencies need to be better prepared.
