It's Hall of Fame Day for the Houston Astros

The Houston Astros induct two new members into the team's Hall of Fame at a ceremony before today's game with Oakland at Minute Maid, presented by Houston Methodist.

The is the teams announcement:

Terry Puhl was a talented all-around player that provided consistent offensive production, strong defense, and speed on the base paths. His 14 seasons with the Astros (1977 – 1990) are third all-time in franchise history, trailing only Hall of Famers Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell. Puhl is in the top 10 in Astros franchise history in multiple categories, including WAR, games played, hits, doubles, triples, runs scored, and stolen bases. Defensively, Puhl was one of the best in the league. He tallied only 18 errors in 1,300 career games, and his .993 fielding percentage is the best among outfielders in Astros history.

Tal Smith arrived in Houston in 1960 after being named Assistant to the General Manager. He was instrumental during the construction of the Astrodome and was responsible for finding an alternative playing surface to natural grass, which lead to the installation of a new, synthetic turf, which became known as “Astroturf”. Smith was named Astros General Manager in August of 1975. He built the club into a winner as they captured their first NL West crown in 1980, marking their first Postseason appearance. After some time away from the Astros, Smith returned in 1994 and helped the club earn six playoff berths in nine season, including their first-ever World Series appearance in 2005. Smith was also instrumental in the design of Minute Maid Park, which featured a 10-degree hill in centerfield dubbed "Tal's Hill" when it first opened in 2000.
