Uvalde School Police Chief Resigns From City Council

Embattled Uvalde school police chief Pete Arredondo is no longer a member of the Uvalde City Council. Arredondo resigned over the weekend in a letter which reads, "It is in the best interest of the community to step down, to minimize further distractions." State police have blamed Arredondo for the slow law enforcement response to the deadly massacre at Robb Elementary School in May that killed 19 students and two teachers. He was elected to the city council a few weeks before the shooting, and took the oath of office afterward but had not attended any council meetings. Some Uvalde residents are calling for Arredondo to resign as the school police chief as well.
