Houston Celebrates Independence Day

Houston's signature Fourth of July event - Shell Freedom Over Texas - returns to a full in-person event this year for the first time since 2019. The event will include live entertainment at Eleanor Tinsley Park and Sam Houston Park, culminating in a massive fireworks display over downtown Houston. Houston-area native Clay Walker will headline, along with country band Sawyer Brown and many other performers. The event will also include an interactive Space Experience to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Tickets for Freedom Over Texas are $10 per person online or at the gates, with children 5 and under free.

Elsewhere around the region, Galveston is launching a drone light show from the beach tonight for the first time ever, in lieu of a traditional fireworks show. Standard fireworks will be featured in the Woodlands at the Red, Hot and Blue Festival, and at the Katy Freedom Celebration. In Tomball, the fireworks show was cancelled due to drought conditions, but their holiday Street Fest will go on with gates opening at 6 p.m.
