It's Independent Bookstore Day: Here's Where to Celebrate in Houston

In a digital age of audio books and kindle readers there is still something serenely magical about walking in to a bookstore.

The American Booksellers Association describes it as a national one-day party celebrating independent bookstores across the country, online and in stores.

Hundreds of bookstores are participating.

Katy Budget Books will have exclusive free giveaways today starting at 10am. They're at 870 S. Mason Rd #101 in Katy. 281-578-7770.

Blue Willow Bookshop is a mustsee stop at 14532 Memorial at Dairy Ashford. They're geared up for the day and anxious to know what you're reading these days.

True Crime is popular so the Houston icon Murder by the Book around Rice and the Texas MedCenter should be on your list. They have discounts and select signed copies of books.

There's nothing more Houston and shining the city's literary excellence better than Brazos Bookstore, the citizen's treasure chest, in the Bissonnet Village Center. For a total groovefest, there is a tie-dye party in the parking lot from noon to 2.

If you're in Brenham there's the Book Nook and in the Woodlands Village books, but whereever you are, today is a special day to celebrate the independent bookstore in your neighborhood.
