After two years of lockdowns, business closures, mask mandates and vaccine mandates, freedom is suddenly peeking its head out from the COVID clouds that have covered much of America. One by one, Democrat leaders are ending COVID mandates and emergency pandemic restrictions...New York, California, Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois, and Nevada have all lifted some or all mandates just in the past two weeks. It's all part of the left's changing narrative on COVID, with CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen recently claiming it's time to lift mandates because "the science has changed."
Most Americans (especially school kids) are relieved and happy to see these mandates come to an end, but others warn it isn't as simple as just moving on. Linnea Lueken, research fellow at the Heartland Institute, does not trust this sudden change of heart by Democrats. "All of the governors who were cracking down on small businesses while allowing places like Walmart and Home Depot to stay open, that was totally unacceptable," she tells KTRH. "And we shouldn't just forgive and forget."
Lueken warns these leaders will try to do this again if voters don't fight back. "I think it's important that people hold their representatives accountable for the damage that has been done to small businesses and kids in schools," she says. "Make sure that you as a citizen make it known that you're not going to vote for someone who is willing to pull this sort of thing again."
In addition to holding elected leaders accountable, Lueken argues it is equally important for voters to demand accountability for the unelected bureaucrats who drove many of the restrictive COVID mandates. Exhibit A: Dr. Anthony Fauci. "People want to be able to trust their government, but (the government) abused that trust over the last few years," she says. "And it's going to be up to us to elect people who are willing to get rid of those bad eggs---the authoritarians and the tyrants in our government."
