Texas Feed Stop

Many folks in Baytown, Mont Belvieu, Highlands, Crosby, Dayton, Liberty, Anahuac and Winne may not be aware of what a great GardenLine Treasure they have in the Texas Feed Stop.

So, I’ll take responsibility for introducing the GardenLine faithful to this wonderful place at 9534 Highway 146, less than a mile north of Interstate 10.

Some people may not know about the Texas Feed Stop because they have just driven right by it without a second glance. That’s possibly because, first and foremost, it’s a feed store. Many suburban residents and folks new to Texas just don’t realize how helpful feed stores can be if they want to follow my advice, especially if they don’t have a garden center nearby. Feed stores have always been great places to pick up products recommended on GardenLine, going back to the days of original hosts Bill Zak and Dewey Compton.

First, let me introduce to you the Rhodes family, owners and operators of Texas Feed Stop. Bryan and Hope Rhodes took over the place a decade ago, bringing it from a quiet little feed store mostly focused on general agricultural supplies and hunting paraphernalia, to a whole new level with today’s inventory of gardening and landscaping products. Bryan has been in the retail industry for over 25 years, so he definitely has a heart for customer service. In recent years, Bryan saw the need for the Baytown region to have a place that provided far more than just feed for animals. He’s done his research and now carries nearly everything I talk about on the radio show, including ...

  • Nitro Phos
  • MicroLife
  • The Ground Up
  • Bonide
  • Medina
  • Azomite

Plus, just about every kind of herbicide, fungicide and insecticide you can think of!

And this is a true family-run, family-owned-and-operated business. When Bryan and Hope first purchased the feed store, they had only one other employee. Today, they have around a dozen, and others in the family help out when they can. Their oldest son, Christian, is attending the University of Houston but also helps lead the store. Their youngest son, Bo, is a high school sophomore and also pitches in when possible. Hope handles most of the “back room” stuff like payroll and accounting.

And there’s one other family member who puts in a full day’s work - store dog Mexi, who is in charge of greeting customers.

It’s safe to say that Bryan, who has always loved having a nice-looking yard, definitely has a passion for the lawn and garden industry. He has really helped many homeowners in the Baytown and Mont Belvieu areas with his thirst for knowledge and passion for great landscapes. I also like to think he is always listening and learning from GardenLine.

What really stands out when you do business with Texas Feed Stop is their customer service. I hear nothing but great things from their customers, especially how they greet store visitors by name and treat them like family.

Keeping in mind this is still a feed store, it’s worth mentioning that they carry all the top feed lines as well, including Purina, M-G Feed, Bluebonnet, Petrus and High Noon. Plus, they stock quality dog food lines -- Victor, Exclusive, Diamond, and Valu Pak -- plus an assortment of pet supplies.

So, if for the past few years you’ve just passed this place by, it will be very well worth a stop at Texas Feed Stop. It goes to a point I’ve made for years on GardenLine: We Love Those Feed Stores!
