Valentines Day and Roses go together like Tuesdays and Tacos!

Roses are beautiful and can be a symbol of romantic love - but they sure are expensive today! Owner of the River Oaks Flower House Smita Patel agrees!

"The top-grade, long-stemmed roses that we are selling now are $125 a dozen. She says she remembers 5 years ago when the price was more than 30% lower!" And 10 years ago they about $30 a dozen. What has caused such a price hike this Valentines Day? Patel has the answer: "It's because of Supply and Demand [after all, it is Valentines Day"], inflation and the vases come from China. With anything that comes from China - the freight is high in price!"

Supply and demand dictates that a beautiful arrangement of long stemmed roses is pricier today than in January. Patel says no matter the cost they are selling like crazy. "Very Crazy! Today we were so buy that we had to shut down our computer for a little while in order to catch up!" She adds that deliveries are so in demand she had to get extra help! "We have 8 to 9 drivers on the road today. On a usual day we have only 1 or 2!"
