CANCELED: Chemical Leak - Shelter In Place

On Twitter just now, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo canceled the Shelter In Place that was observed for hours in Katy.

From an earlier post:

Harris County Fire Marshall Laurie Christensen reports: At approximately 8:40 last night fire fighters were dispatched to the 99 cent store warehouse where a leak of and ammonia was detected. At 1:00 this morning the toxic gas began to leave the facility.

People living within the areas below should stay inside and turn off their air conditioners to avoid the outside are coming into their homes.

  • South boundary: Kingsland Blvd. between Highway 99 & S. Mason Rd.
  • East boundary: Mason Rd. between Kingsland Blvd. & Mason Creek
  • North boundary: Mason Creek between Highway 99 & N. Mason Rd.
  • West boundary: Highway 99 between Kingsland Blvd. & Mason Creek, including a portion between Colonial Parkway and Mercantile Parkway next to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital. 
  • The area does not include the hospital.
