Apparent key mixup leads to triple shooting at Houston motel

Three people were shot Tuesday evening at the Travel Inn and Suites in the 17600 block of Eastex Freeway, apparently as a result of two groups of guests receiving key cards to the same room.

According to police, a group of three individuals checked into the motel around 6:30 p.m. and went to their room. Shortly thereafter, another group of three checked in, and the front desk clerk accidentally gave the second group a key card to the same room.

Police say the second group entered the room and an argument broke out among the guests. Then, someone in the second group opened fire on the first group.

All six people ran from the room, and police say members of the second group continued shooting at the first group in the motel's parking lot.

Three people who were initially in the room were all hit by gunfire and were taken to a hospital. At last report they were all in stable condition.

The three people in the second group fled. No arrests have been made.
