Astros' new City Connect uniforms salute Houston's link to space

The Houston Astros have unveiled their City Connect uniforms, and their graphics link the team with the city's long history as "Space City."

The navy uniforms with rainbow highlights are from Nike, and they'll be worn for the first time Wed., April 20, when the Astros host the Angels at Minute Maid Park. Then, they'll be worn for every Monday home game.

Seven other Major League Baseball teams also have City Connect uniforms - the White Sox, Nationals, Royals, Rockies, Angels, Brewers and Padres.

“Our City Connect uniform links the past and the present, making the old new, with a nod to our city’s great history of space travel," said Anita Sehgal, the Astros senior vice president of communications and marketing.

Among uniform highlights are the hat logo, which has the iconic Astros star depicted in rainbow shades with a planet track around it, and the mission patch on the left sleeve. Inspired by those worn by NASA crews, the patch says "Space City" and includes Houston's four area codes - 713, 281, 832, 346 - and a stylized Texas state flag. Lettering on the jerseys is in NASA's "worm" font.
