What Your Need to Know This Year About the Back to School Tax Free Weekend

From the stroke of midnight before sunrise Friday morning until the final tick after 11:59 pm on Sunday shop to your heart’s content for all your qualifying back to school needs this weekend.

“The sales tax holiday for school supplies and certain clothing items is this Friday through Sunday, August 6, 7 and 8th,” says Kevin Lyons with the Texas Comptroller’s Office. “They can save about $8 on every $100 they spend,” he says of shoppers like you.

A lot of families didn’t do much shopping last year because school had gone virtual, and those kids grow quickly. Buy now and save the tax.

Online shopping counts, but the shipping costs can get tricky. They can count toward the total cost of an item, which is capped at $100, so watch the dollar amounts.

Most clothing, footwear and school supplies up to $100 qualifies. Be sure to check the link HERE with the Texas Comptroller’s Office for the complete list.

Texas has been doing back to school tax free weekends since 1999.
