BREAKING NEWS! Don't Boil the Water, Houston!

Effective immediately, the City of Houston has lifted the boil water notice for Houston.

Houston customers no longer need to boil water used for drinking, cooking and making ice.

Houston Water has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of today.

Other cities dropping their Boil Water Notices are: Katy , Bellaire, the city of Galveston, Sugar Land, Greatwood, Texas City and Fulsher .

Carol Haddock of Houston Public Works gives these instructions before you start drinking your water:

  1. Run your cold water tap for 1 minute.
  2. Dump any ice that's in your freezer's icemaker. Make 3 more batches, dumping them out each time.
  3. If you have a home water softener system, put it through a re-generation cycle.
