Texas Democrats are pushing legislation for taxpayer-funded abortions under the guise of restoring “women's health care.”
“It's a bill that would force taxpayer-funding of abortion through Medicaid,” says Rebecca Parma, legislative director for Texas Right to Life.
“A lot of times people were subsidizing abortions through their insurance providers, and they didn't know they were doing that,” she says.
“A lot of states have passed laws like Texas, where we separate out supplemental abortion coverage plan from your general insurance. But every state is different. There's a lot of great resources out there to make sure that your insurance plan is not inadvertently subsidizing abortion.”
Parma says calls this the most radical abortion legislation filed so far this session, but there's still plenty of time before the filing deadline.
