Restaurants Have Been Forced to Adapt, Use New Technology in 2020

No industry has probably been hit harder financially in 2020 than restaurants. Nationwide, tens of thousands of restaurants had to close their doors for good. The pandemic, lockdowns, and the economic downturn all had an impact. Locally, however, many were been able to adapt.

“We’ve seen an extreme increase in the level of technology that’s used by restaurants, whether that’s online ordering or third party delivery to try and make it as easy as possible for consumers," Jonathan Horowitz, the founder of Convive Hospitality Consulting, told KTRH.

Horowitz says third party delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats have been helpful in keeping businesses afloat. To be successful long-term, however, he says restaurants need in-person dining. He says future lockdowns would be devastating.
