2021 Texas Legislature May Consider New Election Laws

There are more than 60 election related bills that have already been introduced in the 2021 Texas legislative session in both the House and Senate, and more are likely.

Democrats have been unsuccessfully trying to expand access to voting access for decades, but given Republican successes in the 2020 electionn measures addressing a backlog of voter registrations, mail in voting, and online voter registration, may get added attention.

Texas is one of only nine states that don't allow online voter registration.

Harris County's drive-thru voting and ballot drop offs, and the state's extended early voting period may see some movement.

The regular Texas legislative session begins January 12.
